Bali – Paradise Lost or Definitive Tourist Trap?

One of the first destinations and real workouts I gave a DSLR was a trip we took to Bali back in 2010. I had mixed thoughts regarding Bali prior to visiting it. On one hand you hear from travelers of a pristine paradise with wonders incomparable to anywhere else on the planet. On the other is the (in my opinion) over the top ‘Eat Pray Love’ appeal for wealthy Western tourists to ‘find themselves’, or the gaudy streets of Kuta and Sanur, reminiscent of Koh Pha Ngan nursing a full moon hangover. For our money we took off to the neighboring island of Nusa Lembongan (remarkably deserted considering the proximity to the main island) to spend our time diving the rich coral reefs in peace. We returned to the mainland and headed to Ubud where we spent a few days taking in the beautiful rice paddies, volcanoes and other diverse landscapes and wildlife. Below are some of the photos of this South-East Asian adventure.
